San Francisco Bay Group 2 Conducts Change of Command at California Wing Conference

Woodland Hills, CA - October 21, 2023 - The 2023 California Wing conference witnessed a significant moment as San Francisco Bay Group 2 conducted a change of command between outgoing commander Lieutenant Colonel Shawn Lawson and incoming commander Major Richard West.

During this leadership transition, Maj West expressed gratitude to Col Lawson for his dedicated service to San Francisco Bay Group 2. Maj West also conveyed his humbled acknowledgment of taking the helm as the new commander of this distinguished group, referring to it as the "best group in California Wing" due to its diverse membership of highly skilled seniors and cadets.

In response, Col Lawson shared his thoughts, stating that it had been a great privilege to serve the members of Group 2. Additionally, Col Lawson unveiled his new role as the Vice Commander of California Wing, where he plans to leverage the lessons he learned while leading one of the largest and most capable groups within the Pacific Region to drive positive change throughout the entire California Wing. He also extended his best wishes to Maj West as he embarked on his new role as Group Commander.

To mark this occasion, Maj West was promptly promoted to the grade of Major, a recognition of his increased responsibilities as the new commander of San Francisco Bay Group 2.

This momentous change of command reflects the commitment and dedication of these officers to the Civil Air Patrol and its mission. The California Wing conference participants congratulated Maj West as he assumed command and Col Lawson as he took on his new role within the California Wing.
